With the apparent demise last year of MMiR magazine from Ampersand I was left with out a magazine that focused on the military end of modelling and nothing else. For years I have picked up Tamiya's Model Magazine when it had the occasional armour, aircraft or IDF subject I was interested in. I had also been following the articles of our forum member John Murphy who was building many of the new IDF kits for articles in TMMI magazine. I was on the verge of getting a subscription when John was given the chance of editing a solely military version of the Tamiya magazine(read ground forces) called Model Military International.

For those who have either read or at least taken a look at Tamiya Magazine the Magazine size, layout and fonting should be some what familiar. That is because the same publishing house produces TMMI, Model Airplane International. To date there has only been 4 issues but they have for me at least they have been good ones. This is good as I chose to buy a subscription which for some will likely be a down side, at least those not on the European continent. A One year subscription of 12 issues will run someone in the U.S.  55 £ or approximately $100 US. Whilst this may be somewhat on the steep end I think it is worth the price.

The articles  are well written (and edited) with clear photos in an easy to read layout. For those familiar with other magazines which overload each page in an attempt to give the most information possible Model Military takes the opposite approach. Each article is given its space. making reading easy and allowing for more and larger photos to accompany each article. (see sample below)

Items covered have ranged from the new Tamiya Char 1 BIS, An RSO diorama based on photos of a rusted hulk, a build up of the old 'Pink Panther' Lan drover kit, a M7 priest in Sicily and an Italeiri IDF Magach 6b.  Further each issue has had Items like photo essays on Items like the Challenger 2 and M1A1. There are also both in depth and general reviews of the latest books, kits AM sets as well as figure Items. All done in an easy to read format. While the magazine is yet in it's infancy It shows a willingness to listen to and provide content sought after by the armour and modern infantry modeller. Perhaps being run by modellers of that ilk like "spud" Murphy and Marcus Nichols helps. One more suggestion from the peanut gallery on this side of the pond would be to increase news and seek advertisers from the US and Canada.

If you looking for that one Magazine for armour and modern infantry this is likely it. So if you want it to stick around  give up that extra order of  spuds and get yourself a subscription. Below is a sample page of a news page.
